A set of miniature birdhouses in 1:35 scale from the production of Matho Models. A diorama prop, not a kit of a model: birdhouses of the kind that hang on trees in orchards, on garden fences and under the gables of rural farmhouses. A small thing the viewer notices only at second glance, and it is exactly such details that turn a scene into a story.
Birdhouses belong in rural and garden scenes of any era, as the subject is entirely timeless. Place them on the trunk of a tree, on a fence post, on the wall of a barn or under the eaves of a cottage. They soften military subjects splendidly: equipment driving through a village looks more credible when an ordinary birdhouse hangs on the apple tree by the road. In a civilian scene they can be the central motif of a vignette with a gardener straight away.
Paint the birdhouses in shades of natural wood, a brown base coat, a dark wash into the joints and drybrushing in a light ocher along the edges. You will create weathered wood with grayish tones, and the little roof can be treated as sheet metal or tarred (dark gray, a fine sheen). Darken the opening of the birdhouse and it will gain depth. Glue them to a surface with cyanoacrylate glue, and on a tree ideally leaning back slightly, the way birdhouses hang in reality too.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
