1:35 British Special Forces with support troops (Afghanistan) is a set of plastic figures of modern British soldiers from the manufacturer Gecko Models.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of injection-molded plastic figures from the manufacturer Gecko Models depicting members of the British special forces complemented by soldiers of support units, in equipment corresponding to the deployment in Afghanistan. These are figures, not a vehicle model or an accessory set of parts. They serve to bring a diorama with modern equipment to life, or as a subject in their own right for figure painting. They are supplied unassembled and unpainted.
Modern British equipment differs from that of the Second World War above all in its modular concept. The load-carrying system consists of a vest or a webbing harness with interchangeable pouches, complemented by ballistic protection, knee and elbow pads, communications equipment and a helmet with a mount for night observation devices. Soldiers of special units in the field often stand out through a looser combination of commercially available and military equipment, while members of support units tend to have more uniform kit. It is precisely this contrast that makes the set interesting for a diorama, because it shows two different levels of equipment in a single scene.
Before gluing, remove the mold seams, especially on the arms and the trouser legs, where they are the most visible. Modern camouflage patterns are not painted literally in 1:35 scale but in a simplified way, with less contrast than the real fabric has, otherwise the figure falls apart visually. Work from the base shade through the larger patches to the small details and finally add a fine highlight of the edges. Set the equipment and the pouches apart in a slightly different shade from the uniform so that they do not get lost in the overall view. Paint the weapons separately and fit them only once they have dried. Seal the finished figures with matte varnish and add dust and abrasion with pigments on the boots and on the lower part of the trouser legs.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
