The sheet from ETA diorama carries designs of small printed matter meant for scenes in 1:35 scale. It is printed paper from which you cut out the individual pieces and arrange them around the diorama. It is not a kit and it is not a decal — and that is exactly the point: a magazine cut from paper has the right thickness and the right edge in scale, and it can be laid at an angle, propped up or left open, which a printed surface can never do.
Magazines and comics are typical furnishings of living quarters and service rooms: a small table in a room, a cafe table, a bench in a guardhouse, shelves in a store, a pile beside a bunk. They work outdoors too — a copy dropped on the sidewalk or on the bed of a vehicle gives the scene an immediate sense that somebody really lived and worked there. A few pieces in different states, one neat and one crumpled, look more convincing than a carefully aligned row.
Cut the piece out with a sharp blade against a ruler and darken the cut edge with a pencil so that no white shows. An open magazine is made by folding it dry over a blunt edge; you get the curve by drawing the paper over the edge of a fingernail. Glue it in spots with PVA or matte paper glue — little glue, otherwise the element will wrinkle. Once it is dry, smudge the edges gently with brown or gray paint so that the paper does not look fresh from the press, and coat it with matte varnish. For printed matter lying on a table it is worth adding a light wash around the outline: it creates a shadow and the element stops looking like a sticker.
