A decal sheet from the Hungarian manufacturer HAD models with the divisional insignia of German units of the Second World War period, prepared for 1:35 scale. It is not a kit but an accessory for a finished model: waterslide decals with which a vehicle's markings are completed alongside a production number or a tactical number on the turret.
A divisional insignia was a simplified graphic symbol, usually painted with a stencil on a fender, a cargo body or the side of a vehicle, and it served for the quick identification of the machine's belonging to a larger unit. The symbols were deliberately simple so that they could be laid on quickly and read from a distance. For a modeler these insignia matter, because it is exactly they that turn a generally painted model into a particular vehicle. Kits tend to include only a narrow selection, so a separate sheet widens the choice.
Spray the place where the insignia is to go with gloss clear coat, so that the decal settles with no air under the carrier film. Cut the design out closely, soak it in lukewarm water and once it has released slide it onto the model. Fenders and side panels tend to be busy, so a decal softener is worth using. Once dry, unify the surface with a matte or semi-matte varnish. On a real vehicle an insignia quickly became dulled by dust and mud, so feel free to cover it partly while weathering, as the result then looks more convincing.
