A photo-etched plate with overall dimensions of 100x50 mm with an engraved modern pattern designated as type A. It is not a kit, nor a set for one kit, but a material out of which you cut the areas for your model. Hauler is a Czech maker of photo-etched accessories.
Modern equipment has pronounced textured surfaces on its walking and working areas, which are hard to imitate on a model by sprinkling or by spraying a texture; both methods give a random pattern, whereas real plate has a regular one. An engraved photo-etched plate solves that problem once and for all: the pattern is even, sharp and equally high over the whole area. It comes into its own on platforms, side surfaces and hatches, but also away from vehicles, on metal stairs and walkways in a diorama for instance.
Working with the plate is largely a matter of precision. Measure the area first and preferably draw a layout on paper, because a piece once cut out cannot be added back. Cut with a scalpel along a steel ruler on a hard surface, not with scissors. After degreasing, use a primer for metal. With modern equipment chipping fluid or the hairspray technique proves its worth: the primer, the chipping medium, the main shade, and once it has dried the paint is scrubbed off the most heavily used places with a damp brush. A wash then lights the pattern up, and a final coat of pigment settles it into the whole by dusting.
