1:35 Extremist

Figure of an armed man, 1:35 scale, Evolution Miniatures

A resin figure in 1:35 scale showing an armed man in civilian and paramilitary clothing of the kind that appears in scenes from modern asymmetric conflicts. The casting of gray modeling resin is supplied unpainted, unassembled and with casting blocks. The set is intended for modelers who build a diorama with modern equipment or a street scene and need a figure that stands apart from the regular units.

The real subject

The figure combines civilian items of clothing with military accessories, which is typical of irregular armed groups. In modeling terms that means loose fabrics, layering, a combination of textile and webbing and a personal weapon without uniform dress. For building a scene such a figure is useful because it brings a contrast with uniformed figures and vehicles into the diorama.

Building and painting tips

Wash the casting in lukewarm water with dish soap, so that the surface takes the paint. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw, sand the surfaces wet and protect your airways while sanding. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue and fill the seams with putty. After primer, take advantage of the fact that the clothing is not uniform: paint every item in a different tone so that the scene looks varied, but keep to muted, dusty shades. Bring out the loose fabrics with a dark wash in the folds and a dry brush on the edges. Build the face and the hands up in layers from a mid skin tone. At the end a matte clear coat and a light dusting with pigment at the feet.
