A pair of castings in modeling resin in 1:35 scale from the Czech maker CMK. The set is not a kit of equipment; these are figures that are added to a finished model or to a diorama base. The theme of the set is figures caught in a quiet moment, that is in poses that differ markedly from upright standing figures.
A relaxed pose means a seated or leaning figure with bent limbs and with the center of gravity off the axis of the body. In practice that has two consequences. First, figures like these do not stand on their own and need support: a crate, a stone, the side of a hull, a low wall. Second, they are placed into a scene only at the end, because their position follows from what is actually in the scene. Always build the terrain first, therefore, and only then look for where exactly the casting will seat. That is precisely what sets this set apart from pairs modeled for a flat base, which can be stood anywhere.
On figures in a relaxed position the casting blocks tend to be on the underside of the legs and on the back, that is on the surfaces that will then rest on the support. Cut them off with a fine-toothed saw and level the surface flat on abrasive paper laid on the table, as only then will the casting seat with no gap. The parting line on this set passes through the folds of the cloth, which is the most sensitive place in the whole cleaning up: sanding too hard will wipe the fold away and the surface then looks flat. Work with fine paper and restore the edge with a knife where you have sanded it away. Wash the parts in warm water with detergent because of the mold release agent, glue them with cyanoacrylate glue and fill the gaps with putty. Sand with respiratory protection.
Relaxed poses stand or fall with the folds of the cloth, so after the base do not spare the wash that runs into the recesses, and brighten the raised surfaces. Paint the figure separately from the base and join them only once finished, otherwise you will not reach the lower folds with a brush.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
