German Infantrymen Winter is a set of two figures in 1:35 scale from the Czech brand CMK. According to the name, these are German infantrymen of the Second World War period in winter dress. It is neither a vehicle model nor a kit - the figures go with an already built model, a vignette or a diorama. The castings are supplied unpainted.
A winter scene is one of the most rewarding diorama themes, because white ground lets every color and every shadow come out. A figure in winter dress has a completely different silhouette from a summer one: a long greatcoat or a quilted jacket changes the proportions of the body, covered hands and head simplify the shape, and the whole bulk is heavier. That is exactly why winter figures cannot be stood in for by summer ones, and a builder needs them in the right version. Two figures are enough for a small scene - a pair by a vehicle, by a fire or in conversation - where the point is not to fill the space but to create a relationship between the figures.
Wash the resin castings in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent so that no mold release agent is left on the surface. Cut the casting blocks away with a saw or a sharp scalpel, sand down the mold seams and protect your breathing while sanding. The parts are glued with cyanoacrylate glue; liquid plastic cement does not hold on resin. Spray a thin primer and only then paint. On winter uniforms the commonest mistake is pure white - real white cloth over snowy ground always has a cast toward gray or beige, and the lower hem tends to be soaked and dirty. Weather the edges of the greatcoat with a dark wash and the bottoms of the trousers with a brown pigment. Snow on the figure and on the base is made from modeling snow paste or fine white grit laid on over the finished paintwork.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and groundwork materials are not included in the package.
