A photo-etched set of license plates in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit and not a model, but an accessory that replaces a plastic or printed plate with a thin metal one. The difference shows mainly at the edge: a real plate is sheet metal, and as soon as the part from a kit is visibly thick, it gives away the scale of the whole model.
License plates are fitted to brackets on the front and the rear of a vehicle. On models of military equipment they belong to the features that can be done right almost for nothing, and yet they are the ones most often got wrong, whether by the thickness of the part or by the plate being glued out of true. Photo-etched sheet also allows a light bend or dent to be suggested, which looks natural on a vehicle in use.
Cut the plates out of the fret with a sharp scalpel against a hard surface and sand the burr back. Degrease the metal before painting and use a primer for metal surfaces, otherwise the paint will not hold. The background of the plate is usually sprayed and the characters are then dealt with according to what you have available. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, preferably the gel type, which gives time to align it. Once glued on, check the plate from a distance; a slight rotation is very visible in a head-on view. Finally unify the plate with the vehicle by light dusting, so that it does not look newer than the rest of the machine.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
