About product

Armored vehicle crew 1:35 - CMK resin figures

A pair of castings in modeling resin in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of a vehicle but a figure accessory intended for a model you already have built. Crew figures differ from infantry in one essential feature: they do not stand freely on the ground but are designed to be seated in a particular opening in the model, most often in a turret or hull hatch.

The figures and placing them

That is what determines the whole working procedure. A crew figure cannot be bought and simply stood beside a model; you have to test it dry in the hatch opening, because the diameter of the ring differs from model to model. Count on shortening or conversely packing out the lower part of the casting so that the figure stands out to the right height: a figure seated too high looks as if it were on tiptoe, one seated too low disappears into the opening. Check the arms and forearms against the edge of the hatch, as with leaning positions it is precisely the forearm resting on the rim of the hatch that gives a scene credibility. The second figure can be seated in another hatch or left standing on the hull.

Working with the casting

On crew figures the casting blocks tend to be under the base of the torso, that is exactly where you will be shortening the casting anyway; cut them off with a fine-toothed saw and level the surface on abrasive paper on a flat board. The parting line runs along the sides and across the shoulders; sand it with fine paper and restore damaged edges of the gear with a knife. Before clear coating, wash the parts in warm water with detergent so that the mold release agent disappears. They are glued solely with cyanoacrylate glue, and the gap between the body and the rim of the hatch is better leveled with putty than flooded with glue. Sand with respiratory protection.

Painting

Paint the figure out of the model and glue it into the hatch only at the very end, otherwise while working with the brush you will rub off the surrounding paint on the vehicle. A thin base first works well, then the face and hands, and only lastly the clothing, as the opposite order leads to repairs on surfaces already finished.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of armor models in 1:35 who want to man the hatches
  • Modelers willing to test and adjust the seating of a figure in a particular model
  • More experienced builders, as resin is cut, sanded and glued with cyanoacrylate
  • Those who want to give a model scale and life without building a whole diorama

The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The diameter of a hatch differs between individual kits. Always test the fit dry, therefore, and shorten or pack out the lower part of the casting as needed.

No. It is a figure accessory. The model of the equipment the figures are seated in has to be obtained separately.

Cyanoacrylate glue. Cement for plastic will not bond resin. It is better to level the remaining gap between the figure and the hatch with putty.

Out of the model: the base, then the face and hands, lastly the clothing and gear. Glue it into the hatch at the very end so that you do not rub off the paint on the vehicle.
