A resin figure from the range of the Spanish brand MIG productions. It is not a kit of a piece of equipment but an accessory for a Second World War diorama in 1:35 scale. The subject is a German soldier in captivity, dressed in winter kit, that is in layered clothing with headgear that protects against the cold. The casting has the heavy folds of the winter clothing worked out, and they are rewarding to paint because they offer clear areas for shading.
Winter scenes are among the most striking dioramas of all, and the figure of a prisoner plays a definite narrative role in them: it creates a relationship between the vehicle, the escort and the setting and explains what is going on in the scene. The figure suits settings from the Eastern Front, supply and transport scenes, vehicles with a winter finish and a simple base with a snow-covered road. It works well in a pair or a group of three with other figures, where they then differ in posture and clothing.
Wash the casting in lukewarm soapy water, cut off the casting blocks, sand the surfaces and protect your airways while sanding resin. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), and the gaps should be filled with modeling putty. Apply a primer and paint from a darker base to lighter coats. With winter clothing it pays to leave the cloth faded and shabby, to bring out the recesses with a wash and to lighten the upper surfaces gently so that the volume shows. The skin of the face and the hands will take cooler, slightly red tones in the cold. Indicate snow on the footwear and in the folds with modeling paste or a dedicated snow effect only right at the end.
