A diorama prop in 1:35 scale: a package of three grain sacks. The shape of a full, heavy sack is one of the most versatile props there is, because it looks the same on a farm of the 1920s, beside a military column of the Second World War and in a modern farm. They are supplied as unpainted castings to be cleaned up and painted.
Three pieces offer plenty of compositions: stacked by the doors of a granary or a mill, loaded on the bed of a truck or a hay wagon, leaning against a wall beside a figure of a carrier. In wartime subjects grain sacks accompany supply scenes and markets, and in civilian vignettes they set the rural character of a setting. At the same time their full, sagging shapes give a scene a pleasant softness, a counterweight to the hard edges of vehicles and buildings in 1:35.
You catch jute texture with an ocher or sand base, a darker wash in the folds and a dry brush over the weave of the fabric. Shade each sack slightly differently, toward gray or toward brown, so that the three do not look uniform. Dust at the bottom and a few spilled grains from your modeling supplies (fine sand, static grit) will finish the scene off. Wash the castings and prime them before painting.
The accessories are supplied unpainted. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
