A printed paper accessory for a diorama from the firm ETA diorama for 1:35 scale. The sheet carries the front pages of Greek newspapers, that is a prop that works exceptionally well in a scene: a newspaper in a figure's hand, on a table, on the seat of a vehicle, in a rack by a newsstand or scattered about the street. It is not a kit and not a waterslide decal, but paper.
In reality newspapers almost never occur spread out and flat, and shaping is precisely what makes the whole result with this accessory. A folded copy is made by folding over the edge of a rule; for a rolled newspaper, wind it onto thin wire or a needle and hold it for a while. A crumpled piece is made by dampening the cutout lightly, crushing it in the fingers and then straightening it partly out; once dry it holds its shape. With very thin paper it helps to fix the shape by spraying on very thinned PVA glue or matte clear coat, which stiffens once dry. Just be careful that moisture does not make the printing bleed – always try it on an offcut first.
Into a figure's hand, glue the newspaper only after the figure has been painted, with a small drop of PVA glue. On the ground a newspaper benefits from having an edge lifted slightly and packed up with a drop of glue, so that it looks lifted by the wind. You can age the paper with very thinned oil paint or dry pastel into a yellow-brown, and the edges can be torn gently. Go over the white cut with a pencil.
The accessory is supplied as a printed sheet. Glue, paints and clear coats are not included in the package.
