A detail set from the Polish manufacturer Aber with an accurate turned metal barrel of the Soviet ZiS-3 gun of 76.2 mm in 1:35 scale. The barrel is usable both on a model of the self-propelled gun SU-76 and on the towed version of the gun, which the German army took into service after capture under the designation FK 288(r). It is not a kit but an accessory replacing the plastic barrel. Metal does away with the mold seam, keeps an exact taper and offers a cleanly rendered muzzle and muzzle brake.
The ZiS-3 of 76.2 mm was a Soviet divisional gun, one of the most produced artillery weapons of the Second World War. It combined a simple design, a low weight and good effect against both troops and armored targets. The same gun formed the main armament of the light self-propelled gun SU-76, which became the second most numerous Soviet tracked vehicle of the war. Captured pieces were taken into service by the German army too, under its own designation.
Glue the metal barrel with cyanoacrylate glue, and on larger mating surfaces with a two-part epoxy. Degrease the parts first with alcohol or isopropyl alcohol and roughen the surfaces gently. Paint only after an adhesion primer has been laid on. On the SU-76 with its open fighting superstructure the barrel is clearly visible along its whole length, so fill and sand the transition between metal and plastic carefully. Bring the muzzle and the muzzle brake to life with a gentle sooting with pigment.
This is a detail accessory, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
