A multi-part detail set from the Polish maker Aber in 1:35 scale, intended for a model of the German eight-wheeled Sd.Kfz. 234/4 armored car. In one package it brings together photo-etched brass parts and a turned metal armament part, so it covers a substantial share of the superdetailing of a single model. It is not a kit – the set holds no plastic parts and assumes a base model you have already bought.
The Sd.Kfz. 234/4 was the last and most heavily armed version of the German heavy eight-wheeled reconnaissance armored car. Into its open fighting compartment it received a 75 mm PaK 40 anti-tank gun, that is a weapon able to destroy even medium Allied tanks. The vehicle was built only at the very end of the Second World War and served with reconnaissance units; a combination of high mobility on the road and a powerful barrel made it a dangerous opponent, albeit at the cost of minimal protection for the crew. A model therefore offers an interesting contrast of an open superstructure, fine sheet-metal detail and a massive barrel.
An open fighting compartment means that you will be able to see into the model – so it pays to plan the order of the work and to fit the fine photo-etched parts before the superstructure is closed up. Cut the photo-etched parts on a hard mat, bend them in a bending tool or between two metal rulers and glue them with a minimum of cyanoacrylate glue. Degrease both the metal barrel and the photo-etched parts and give them a base coat. For the finish, a wash into the recesses and pigments for dusty and muddy effects on the running gear work well.
This is a detail set, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
