1:35 Historical American Flags is a printed paper sheet of historical American flags for dioramas in 1:35 scale from the firm ETA diorama. It is not a kit and not a waterslide decal – the motifs are cut out, formed and fitted onto a pole or into a scene.

In a scene a flag is a backdrop element that hints at the place and the time for the viewer without a single word. This sheet brings historical American flag depictions in 1:35 scale and serves purely to make a scene look believable. Paper is more suitable for a flag than a plastic part: a thin layer can be waved, bent and allowed to flow, while a cast flag tends to be several times thicker in scale than real cloth.
On a pole in front of a building, on a rod carried by a figure, on the antenna of a vehicle or draped flowingly over a railing or a crate. A flag draws attention, so do not put it in a corner – either it is the deliberate high point of the composition, or it is better left out. Watch the believability of scale: while building, one tends to make a flag larger than it really is.
Cut the motif out with a scalpel along a rule. For a double-sided flag glue two parts back to back over a thin strip of aluminum foil – that holds the wave and makes it possible to form a sag. Dampen the paper only lightly before forming and draw the shape out over a rounded tool, so that a flowing wave is created without sharp creases. It is glued with PVA or matte glue drop by drop, applied to the undercoat. Darken the white edge of the cut with a marker or pastel, otherwise it will glare around the perimeter. At the end a hint of dust with dry pastel and matte clear coat in a spray, which strengthens the paper and unifies it with its surroundings. A slightly worn edge always looks better than a sharp rectangle.
