A resin accessory set in 1:35 scale for the command and signals version of the LAV light wheeled armored vehicle. It is not a kit — it is a collection of castings of equipment, stowed materiel and small items that are fitted onto a finished or part-built model. The LAV-C2 version serves as a mobile command post, which on the real vehicles shows in the quantity of externally stowed materiel, antennas, cabling and personal equipment of the crew. The extent of the package is stated on the packaging of the set.
Present-day wheeled armored vehicles have extensive external stowage and in service they have it full. A kit does not normally include that materiel, so the model looks like a machine just taken over from the manufacturer. The set adds exactly what makes a vehicle inhabited: loaded baskets, bags, crates and tarpaulins. On a command version that is all the more pronounced, because it is a vehicle occupied by a staff and not only by a crew. The loose castings also serve off the model as filler for a diorama.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap and let them dry, otherwise paint will not hold on remains of mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw; do not break them. Sand wet and do not breathe the sanding dust. They are bonded with cyanoacrylate glue; ordinary cement for plastic has no effect on resin. Lay down a thin primer before painting. Paint the stowed materiel separately off the vehicle and fit it only once the base coat is finished; otherwise you will not reach under the edges with a brush. On present-day vehicles the weathering tends to be more restrained than on vehicles of the Second World War period — a fine wash and a light dust pigment on the lower surfaces and the wheels will do.
