This set is neither a kit nor replacement wheels. It is a set of masking shapes that separate the rubber tire band from the metal rim on the road wheels of the Leopard 1 in 1:35 scale. The cut matches the wheels of the Takom kit — with wheel masks the shape is always tied to a particular molding, so check before ordering which kit you are building.
Seven large road wheels on torsion bars run along each side of the Leopard 1 hull, supplemented by return rollers. The wide rubber tire band is characteristic: on this type it forms a continuous dark band along the side of the vehicle that the eye reads as a single line. That is exactly why the Leopard is sensitive to uneven tire band width — it is not about one wheel but about the rhythm of fourteen circles. The drive sprocket and the idler wheel have a different diameter and shape, so a uniform circle is not used on them, and the side skirts cover part of the running gear, so you judge the result in a narrow band between the skirt and the track.
The idea of using an annulus-shaped decal instead of masking sometimes comes up. On wheels, though, it does not work: the decal film lies on the surface, breaks on a tire band with relief, and the sheen of the carrier layer differs from the matte paint around it even after flattening. A mask, by contrast, creates a genuine border between two sprayed areas, so the tire band and the rim have the same surface texture. Paint, mask and spray the wheels while they are still separate.
