A masking accessory for painting road wheels, not a kit and not decals. The set sets the boundary between the rubber tire and the disk, so that it does not have to be drawn around with a brush nor a mask cut out of tape.
The set is cut for the wheels of the M113 and M106A1 kits from Tamiya. Wheel masks are tied to the dimensions of a particular part, so with a kit of another brand do not count on the fit.
The transition between rubber and disk is dealt with in modeling in two ways – with a mask, or with a thin ring-shaped decal. The result looks similar at first glance, but in terms of material they are two very different things and it is worth knowing what you are choosing.
A decal is a thin layer laid on the surface. It therefore has its own thickness and seen from the side it creates a step, on a matte base it has a tendency to silver and without a softener it will not lay down over the relief of the disk. Its shade is moreover given by the printing, so it need not match the paint you used on the rest of the running gear, and it reacts to weathering differently from the surrounding finish – a wash and a pigment both behave differently on a film. On the other hand it is applied quickly and requires no airbrush.
A mask adds no layer at all. The result is real paint, which you choose yourself, with the same surface texture as the rest of the model, so it reacts to a wash and to pigments exactly as its surroundings do and has nowhere to silver. The price for that is time: you need spraying equipment, a dried base and a while to lift the masks. For a model that will be weathered and looked at close up, a mask is clearly the better choice.
It is a masking accessory for modelers. The package holds neither a kit, wheels, decals nor paints. Store the sheet flat and out of direct sunlight.
