This is not a model of the vehicle but a painting accessory. The set holds shaped masks that stick onto the wheel and separate the face of the rim from the rubber tire band. The cutouts are cut for the parts from the 1:35 scale M4 Sherman kit by Tamiya — wheels from another mold have a different diameter and a different profile, so check the match against your own box before ordering.
A tank model is looked at mainly from the side and roughly at track level. That is precisely where a whole row of road wheels sits side by side, the same circular shape repeating, and the eye compares them with one another automatically. An irregularity you would never notice on the top of the hull is instantly legible in that row: one band of rubber thicker than the rest, one wheel with paint run over the edge. An identical, sharp border on every wheel, by contrast, gives the model a clean look before anyone even notices the detail on the turret. The ratio of time spent to the effect achieved is therefore better on the wheels than on most other upgrades.
Prime the wheels first, so the mask holds on a uniform surface and does not tear the paint off when you peel it away. Press the mask down all the way around once it is on, most carefully where it meets the edge of the rim. Apply the paint with an airbrush in thin coats and square from above, not at a slant under the edge of the mask. Take the mask off as soon as the paint has flashed off and no longer smears — on a fully cured film the edge breaks away more easily. Store the sheet flat, away from dust and direct light.
This is a masking accessory, not a kit. Paints, thinner and the target kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
