Responsibility details are not available.
Manhole covers in 1:35 scale belong to the small things that turn a paved area into a real street. An empty roadway on a diorama looks like a board that the model merely stands on; as soon as a cover appears in it, the area gains scale, direction and a reason for the road to run there. It suits urban settings, factory yards and railroad ramps. The range of the set and the number of parts are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
In reality a cover lies level with the roadway, not on top of it. On a diorama, therefore, make a shallow bed in the base and seat the part so that its top face is flush with the surroundings; a slight rise or, the other way round, a slight dip looks more convincing than a part glued on top. Then fill the surrounding gap with the material you are building the roadway from and smooth the transition. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, and choose the glue according to the material of the parts and the manufacturer's instructions.
A cast iron cover tends to be dark and matte and differs from the rest of the roadway both in shade and in surface. Keep the base dark and cool, then pick out the edges and the raised pattern carefully with a dry brush. A dark wash belongs in the recesses, while dust and mud go around the cover so that it does not look freshly laid.
The base board, paints, fillers and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
