Photo-etched detail set 1:35 – the SPARK mine roller of the US Army from the maker Voyager Model adds fine metal parts to a plastic kit, parts that cannot be cast in injection-molded plastic.

This is an add-on photo-etched set, not a standalone model of a vehicle. Thin parts of sheet metal replace and supplement the plastic parts of the base kit in 1:35 scale – frames, holders, meshes and stiffening elements whose real thickness injection-molded plastic cannot render faithfully. The maker is Voyager Model, a brand focused precisely on metal upgrade sets for models of modern and historical vehicles.
The SPARK system is an assembly of mine rollers mounted on the nose of an armored vehicle. The rollers move ahead of the vehicle, transfer to the road a pressure comparable with the pressure of the wheels and set off improvised explosive devices prematurely, before they find themselves under the crew compartment. The US Army fitted them above all on wheeled mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles. The construction changed over the course of service, which is why it appears in several versions among modeling accessories.
Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, not with scissors – the metal would otherwise ripple. Make the bends in a photo-etch bender or between two blades, so that the edge is sharp and in one plane. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and on larger assemblies soldering holds better; cement for plastic does not work on metal. Before painting, degrease the metal and lay down a primer, otherwise the paint flakes off during handling. On a finished model the roller is the most exposed part, so it pays to bring out the paint wear on the edges and to add dust pigments.
The set is an accessory, not a kit – the model of the vehicle itself, glue and paints are not included in the package. Before buying we recommend checking the match with your own kit.
