A map is a rewarding element, because it tells a story by itself. It comes into its own spread out on a table in a cabin or a station, pinned to the wall of an office, carelessly thrown onto a crate, rolled up in a figure's hand or draped over the side of a wagon. Precisely because it is paper and not a decal, you can work with it three-dimensionally.
The key is the edge. Fold a map over a blunt object, not with a sharp fingernail, so that the bend looks soft and not like a break in card. If you want to roll a map up, dampen the paper lightly from the back, wind it around a wire or a drill bit and let it finish drying. When laying it on a tabletop, glue it only in spots at the corners, so that the middle can bulge slightly and does not come across as printing on the table. In 1:35 scale the thickness of ordinary paper is perceptible at the edge, so it pays to sand the edge lightly after cutting with a high-grit abrasive or to darken it with a pencil.
Use PVA or matte glue in a thin layer. You achieve aging by toning the edges and the creases, where the paper would be rubbed the most, and with a very fine wash into the bends. A final matte clear coat rids the printing of residual sheen and unifies it with the surrounding scene.
