SX-Art masking stencils for the Msta-S 152 mm self-propelled howitzer in 1:35 scale. The motif is sprayed onto a model in paint instead of a decal being stuck on.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set contains self-adhesive masking stencils for a model of the Russian Msta-S 152 mm self-propelled howitzer in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit. The stencils are stuck to a painted and fully cured surface, oversprayed with a second color, and once they are taken off the motif remains, formed directly by the finish and not by the film of a decal.
A self-propelled howitzer has an extensive hull and a large turret with a long barrel, so markings are placed on it on large flat areas, where every imperfection is visible. A decal wrinkles easily here, a glossy outline remains after it on a matte finish and silvering is a risk. A sprayed motif behaves like the rest of the finish, stands varnishing, a wash and pigments and looks more believable after weathering.
The base must be smooth and fully cured, otherwise a mask will tear the paint away when removed. Reduce the tack of a stencil by laying it briefly on clean cloth. Apply the paint thinned, in several very thin coats and with an airbrush at a low pressure at a right angle to the surface, so that it does not run under the edge. Take the stencils off shortly after the paint has set, with tweezers and at a sharp angle. Reckon with single use.
The package contains the masking stencils alone. A model, paints and thinners are not part of it.
