Stacked transport pallets in 1:35 scale. Pallets are among the versatile props of modern scenes, because you find them behind every shop, on every bay and on every building site, and that is exactly why their presence gives a diorama naturalness at once without drawing attention to itself.
Against the wall of a warehouse, on a loading bay, beside a forklift, on the bed of a truck or in the corner of a yard. A stack of pallets also works superbly as a compositional element, because it covers an empty spot, creates an accent of height and offers a figure a natural support, a seated worker or a soldier leaning against it. In a post-apocalyptic subject it serves as material for a barricade.
After cleaning up and priming you create convincing wood by layering: a light base, irregular glazes of ocher and gray tones on individual boards and a dark wash in the gaps. A dry brush will bring out the edges and the texture, while scuffs and faded top surfaces sell the age. Set each pallet slightly apart in shade, because a uniform stack looks artificial.
A diorama prop, not a model in its own right. It is supplied unpainted, meant to be cleaned up and painted; paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
