Pig with piglets (1:35) is a set of animal figures from the manufacturer MAiM intended for a village diorama in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set belongs among the figures in 1:35 scale and depicts a sow with piglets. It is not a model of equipment and not a structure, but animal figures with which you bring a farm scene to life. The motif of a mother with young has the upper hand in a vignette over an animal on its own: it creates a relationship between the figures and draws the eye of a viewer.
Domestic animals are a practical tool of scale in a diorama. A viewer estimates the size of a building and of equipment from them, and a scene gains a civilian dimension that vehicles on their own never give. A sow with piglets suits a sty, a pen at a farm and the open space of a yard, and it is neutral in period — it works in vignettes across the eras.
Wash the figures in lukewarm soapy water before painting and let them dry, so that the paint holds. Work from a pinkish flesh base, put a thin brown or gray wash into the folds of the skin and between the legs and pick the backs out gently with a dry brush. Paint the piglets a shade lighter than the sow; the difference is readable even on a small figure. Make the patches with thinned paint and no sharp edges. Only suggest details such as the snout, the ears and the eyes with a thin brush. Finally add mud on the legs and the lower part of the body — that is precisely what joins the animals to the terrain of a base.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
