An accessory for painting from Quickwheel. You stick the masks onto the wheels from your own kit and spray the tire bands with an airbrush in one go. According to its name the set is cut for the Takom kit — with wheel masks the target molding is decisive, because the set is traced exactly to the diameter of the given part.
The PL-01 is a technology demonstrator, not a production vehicle, and that tells in the running gear. The striking angular superstructure with its faceting shaped to reduce detectability draws all the attention to the upper part of the model, while the running gear with its road wheels on torsion bars runs hidden behind side panels. Only a lower strip of it is visible — and that is exactly why it often gets skimped. The panels are also fitted only once the wheels are finished, so you have to plan the order of work in advance. The wheels themselves are of the modern type, that is, large, with a pronounced tire band and a flat rim on which every overrun of paint is immediately apparent.
Level the wheels, degrease them and spray the base shade. Apply the mask only to a set finish and press it down all the way around. Spray square in thin coats, or the paint will bleed. On a vehicle in a dark camouflage scheme choose a tire band only a shade darker than the hull, or the running gear will look unnaturally contrasty.
