A sanding plate with a transparent body for sanding flat surfaces on a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
Only a flat tool will keep a surface flat on a model. Sanding paper held in the fingers follows the shape beneath it, so where a flat plane is meant to arise it sands a shallow hollow and rounds the edges off instead. A plate solves that problem by carrying the abrasive layer on a firm flat base: a plane stays a plane along the whole length of the stroke. It comes into play when leveling fuselage joints, when leveling dried filler, when cleaning up the mating surfaces of larger parts and when preparing a surface before painting.
The body of the plate is transparent, so while you work the place being sanded is not completely hidden under the tool and you keep the stroke where it belongs more easily. That is especially useful on small surfaces, where a few extra strokes are enough and the edge is gone.
Make long even strokes in one direction and press only lightly; heavier pressure will not speed the work up, it will only deepen grooves that you then have to sand out again. Check your progress often against the light, which shows unevenness more reliably than a look from above. Remove the dust as you go, because caught between the grains it starts to scratch the surface. Wash and degrease a finished surface before painting. Sand with your airways protected.
The model, kits and filler are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise. The dimensions of the plate, the grit of the abrasive and its suitability for wet sanding are given by the manufacturer.
