About product

Metal barrel of the wz.30 machine gun and a horn for the 7TP in 1:35 scale

This is not a model of a tank but a set of replacement parts for the twin turret version of the Polish light tank 7TP. It contains the barrel of the wz.30 machine gun in the form without an armored sleeve and a signal horn. The accessory is made by the Polish brand MASTER, which has long devoted itself to turned barrels and small tubular parts.

What metal brings over plastic

The barrel of a machine gun is an extremely thin element at this scale, and that is precisely where plastic runs up against its limits. An injection-molded part comes about from two halves, so it carries a mold seam along its whole length, and in sanding that seam down the circular cross-section is easily lost. The muzzle tends to be solid, or merely suggested by a dimple. A turned metal part, against that, is perfectly straight and concentric and has a genuinely drilled muzzle, so on a machine gun barrel the opening is apparent even from close up. At the same time metal offers a stiffness that thin plastic cannot have: the part does not sag under its own weight and survives even having the model put down carelessly. The unarmored form is the distinguishing detail here, as the manufacturer carries the variant with the sleeve separately as well.

Fitting and painting tips

Cut the original plastic barrel off close to the turret and true up the resulting hole with a drill, so that the metal part sits without leaning. Degrease the metal and glue it with cyanoacrylate glue, as ordinary cement for plastic will not hold on it. Before painting, use a primer intended for metal, otherwise the coat comes away from the smooth surface easily. Darken the bore at the end, and the opening will gain depth. The target kit is the one from IBG.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the twin turret version of the 7TP tank in 1:35 scale.
  • Builders who want a machine gun barrel with an open bore.
  • Anyone interested in Polish armor of the 1930s.
  • Modelers working with cyanoacrylate glue and a metal primer.

The package contains only the parts listed. The kit, glue and paints are not part of it.

FAQ

It is not. It is a set of replacement parts for a finished plastic model. The kit itself has to be bought separately.

It is the form without the armored sleeve around the barrel. The manufacturer carries the variant with the sleeve separately as well, so check before buying which form your model needs.

A plastic part has a mold seam and usually a solid muzzle. A metal barrel is concentric, stiffer and has a drilled opening, which on a machine gun in 1:35 scale is a clearly visible difference.

First degrease it, then apply a primer with good adhesion to metal and only after that the color shade. Without a primer the paint rubs off smooth metal easily.
