An injection-molded plastic kit of an artillery piece in 1:35 scale from the Polish maker IBG. The company has long devoted itself to Polish equipment of the interwar period and of 1939 and to its artillery sets, so this howitzer fits into a wider series of related items. The model works as an object on its own in a display case as well as part of a diorama with a crew and a prime mover.
The 100 mm howitzer wz. 14/19 was the Polish designation for a gun originally from Skoda, which Poland took over and built under license. It was the standard light howitzer of the Polish artillery, derived in design terms from a proven type of the First World War and modernized in the interwar period. The weapon was widespread, reliable and used in the artillery battalions of infantry divisions; it was moved by horse team as well as by mechanical traction.
With artillery sets it pays to build in stages, by subassemblies: the carriage on its own, the barrel with the breech on its own and the wheels on their own. Splitting it up makes it easier to paint places you cannot reach once they are glued. Glue with a thin cement for plastic and give the parts time to cure, as the small parts of the carriage are thin. After the base color and a gloss varnish apply the decals, then a wash into the recesses and finally a dry brush on the edges. The wheels and the underside are a rewarding place for dust and mud pigments.
