A masking set for the road wheels of the PT-76, 1:35 scale

The set belongs among accessories for painting: it sets off on a road wheel the area that is to be painted differently from the rest, and covers the rest. It is not a kit nor a set of replacement wheels. It is cut for the kit from the Trumpeter company.

Why the set is tied to one kit

It is not enough for masks that the type of vehicle fits. The diameter of the particular part has to fit. Every manufacturer draws and molds its wheels in its own way; the diameter, the height of the hub and the shape of the transition around the perimeter all differ, and that within one scale and one subject. A mask half a millimeter smaller will leave an uncovered strip around the perimeter, one half a millimeter larger will cross the edge and the boundary will seat in the wrong place. That is why these sets are made for a particular kit and why the same vehicle is offered in variants according to the kit. Before purchase, therefore, verify whose kit you are building, not just which vehicle.

Before you use the set

• Check that your kit corresponds to the one given in the name of the set.
• Assemble and clean up the wheel, as a mask belongs only on a finished surface.
• Lay the mask on dry and verify that it fits, and only then apply it.
• Do not try to stretch a mask so that it seats on a different diameter.

For modelers who are building the kit mentioned and want their wheels dealt with exactly and quickly. Anyone building the same vehicle from another manufacturer should look for the variant intended for their kit.
