A sheet of masks for painting the road wheels of two related heavily armored light tanks. It is not a kit or an extra part, but an aid that covers the rim and leaves the rubber tire band exposed. The cut matches the wheels from the Hobby Boss kit, which is why the target kit is given directly in the name with this range.
Both vehicles have an interleaved running gear with large wheels that overlap one another, and they have no return rollers, because the upper run of the track rides on the road wheels themselves. There are only five wheels per side, but they are large and overlap one another, so together they fill the whole flank of the hull and are very visible. That has a clear consequence for painting. The inner wheels have to be painted and unmasked before the outer row is fitted, because after that you cannot reach them. It is also true that on wheels this large the tire band is wide and uneven lining with a brush is visible at first glance, so a mask does more work here than on a small running gear.
An interleaved running gear fills with dirt in the gaps between the rows of wheels, and that is exactly where the center of gravity of the weathering belongs. Once the mask is off, let a dark wash run around the tire bands to pick out both the edge and the shape of the disc. Then comes pigment dust on the underside of the hull and on the fenders, and muddy cakes into the space between the rows of wheels and by the idler wheel and the drive sprocket. Leave the outer faces of the wheels markedly cleaner; the contrast between the clogged interior and the cleaner exterior is what makes the running gear read from a distance. The running surface of a wider tire band wears off to gray, for which light dry-brushing around the outer circumference is enough.
Paints, glue and the kit itself are not included in the package. Check before ordering that your kit matches the one the set is cut for.
