A photo-etched detail set for the Pz.Kpfw.V Panther Ausf.G with side armor plates in 1:35 scale is an extended accessory for the Academy plastic kit you already own, not a model on its own. Besides hull and turret details it also brings thin side plates in metal.

An extended add-on set of photo-etched metal from the maker Tetra Model Works for the Academy plastic kit of the Panther Ausf.G medium tank in 1:35 scale. Compared with the basic variant of the set it holds in addition the side armor plates, which on the subject were hung on the sides of the hull. It is precisely those that are always a compromise in plastic: an injection-molded part has to have a certain minimum thickness, whereas on the real machine it was thin steel sheet. The set in itself is not a model; it requires the matching base kit and a certain experience with assembling metal parts.
The side plates protected the lower part of the hull and the running gear against shaped-charge projectiles and antitank rifles. In practice they were often lost or damaged, so machines of the period were often seen with the plates partly missing. The Panther Ausf.G was the last production form of the type, with a revised hull, a 7.5 cm gun with a long barrel and a twelve-cylinder gasoline engine. The combination of steeply sloped frontal armor and a powerful gun made it one of the technically most striking tanks of its day.
Long thin parts, such as the side plates and their hangers, are the most sensitive to flatness. Release them on glass or a metal plate, and never let them hang over the edge of the table. A slight bend can be straightened by running a smooth metal roller over it. If you want to give the plates a slight dent or a torn corner as on a worn machine, first anneal the brass briefly over a flame until dark and let it cool; the metal will then give without cracking. Before painting, degrease everything and apply a primer for metal. Weathering looks different on metal than on plastic, so unify both materials with base paint first.
The add-on set is supplied unpainted, with no glue and no base kit. Verify before buying that the set matches the kit you own.
