A set from T-Rex Studio in 1:35 scale replacing the drive sprockets of the PzKpfw II light tank. This is the second of the standards the manufacturer offers: besides variant A it also offers variant B, because with this category of vehicle you will come across more than one type of drive sprocket. This item is prepared for the Tamiya kit; the mounting matches its running gear, so it need not fit another base without modification. The package is not a kit of the tank but an accessory for a part-built model.
On the running gear it is the shape of the teeth and the cleanness of the disk that decide the final impression. Injected plastic has to respect the parting line of the mold, so the teeth come out softer and the openings often do not go all the way through. A resin casting does not involve this compromise. The choice between variant A and B is a matter of the subject, because the earlier and later production series differed in the design of the sprocket, which is why it pays to compare the set against the documentation for the particular vehicle you are building.
Wash the castings in warm water with detergent and let them dry. Cut the casting block off with a saw and sand the surface wet and with respiratory protection. Dry-fit the sprockets together with the tracks before you reach for the glue, because on the running gear any play shows in their tension. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Painting works best on separate parts: the base shade, a dark wash between the teeth, a sparing metallic wear on the contact faces and finally dust pigments, which tie the whole running gear in with the chassis.
The set is an accessory, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Before buying, check that this is the standard matching both your subject and your kit.
