An injection-molded plastic kit of the KrAZ-260 heavy off-road truck in 1:35 scale from Hobby Boss. It is an extensive set with a well worked out frame, drivetrain, cab and flatbed body; according to the maker's figures it holds around 480 parts. A decal sheet and instructions are included. The model is among the larger pieces of its category and in a display case it works as a striking stand-alone subject as well as a towing vehicle for a diorama.
The KrAZ-260 is a heavy truck with all-wheel drive in a 6x6 layout, produced at the plant in Kremenchuk. It entered production in the early 1980s and replaced the older KrAZ-255B type; it was presented to the wider public in 1985. Characteristic features are the angular cab with offset fenders, the long frame and the high ground clearance intended for moving through heavy terrain. The vehicle served as a transport and towing machine — among other things for towing artillery pieces — and in civil modifications also in construction and mining. The design made it one of the most widespread heavy military trucks of Eastern origin.
Build the frame with the axles on a flat surface so that the vehicle stands on all its wheels. Paint the chassis, the transmission group and the underside of the cab before you close the whole thing up — later you will not reach them. Paint the tires separately and away from glossy surfaces. Use liquid cement for plastic for the joints, and for the larger parts rather a thicker version with a longer setting time. Spray the base with an airbrush over a primer; lighten the large flat areas of the body and the cab in the middle so that the model does not look flat. Build up the patina with a dark wash in the pressings, and apply dust and mud pigments from the bottom upward, concentrating them on the wheels, the fenders and the lower edges.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
