A set of two figures in resin from the Czech manufacturer Plusmodel, representing Soviet sailors of the Black Sea Fleet of the Second World War period. The castings are supplied unassembled and unpainted. During the war naval crews often came into their own away from the decks of ships as well, in coastal and ground formations, so the figures will serve both in a shipboard and dockside setting and beside ground equipment.

Building and painting tips

Wash the castings in warm soapy water and rid them of the mold release residue, as otherwise the paint holds badly on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the surfaces, and protect your airways while sanding resin. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and a thin sprayed base coat pays off before painting. A naval uniform lives on contrast: lighten the dark cloth on the edges of the folds and, conversely, shade the light parts so that they do not read as chalky. Soften the transitions on the skin with glazes and at the end even the whole figure out with a matte varnish. For a dockside scene a light salt and damp marks on the lower areas also suit.
