An injection-molded plastic model of the Soviet ZiS-30 self-propelled anti-tank gun in 1:35 scale from Mirror Models. The package combines plastic parts with photo-etched metal for added detail. The exact number of parts is given in the instructions in the box.
The ZiS-30 was a Soviet light tank destroyer from the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. It was created in 1941 as a stopgap solution by mounting the 57mm ZiS-2 anti-tank gun on the chassis of the Komsomolets artillery tractor. The gun sat in the open at the rear of the vehicle behind a simple shield, which gave the crew respectable firepower for the day against the tanks of the time but only minimal protection. Only a limited number of these vehicles were built, and they were used above all in the fighting of 1941.
With this type it pays to assemble and paint the running gear, the chassis and the open fighting platform with the gun before the surrounding parts close them in, because the places that are harder to reach are then easier to paint and weather. Glue the plastic parts with a thin modeling cement for plastic and the fine photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Lay down a primer before painting and spray the paint with an airbrush in thin coats. Finish the weathering with dark washes in the recesses and with pigments for dust and mud effects on the chassis and the tracks.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
