A masking accessory for painting road wheels, not a kit. The set replaces rings cut out of tape by hand and gives the boundary between the rubber tire and the disk the same shape on every wheel.
The set is cut for the wheels of the Sd.Kfz. 251 Ausf.D kit from Tamiya. Wheel masks follow from the dimensions of a particular part, so they need not fit a kit of another brand.
Torn-out paint is the most common disappointment of the whole procedure and almost always has one of four causes. The first is paint applied too thickly – a heavy film behaves when peeled like a continuous membrane and the mask takes it with it. Apply thin layers, therefore, and preferably more passes. The second cause is poor adhesion to bare plastic; a base coat, even a thin one, holds substantially better than paint sprayed directly onto glossy plastic. The third is time: a mask left on a model too long literally becomes one with the finish. The fourth is the manner of the pull – straight upward is the worst variant.
The practical measures are therefore three. Lower the tack of a mask by sticking it on and peeling it off clean glass or a finger once before putting it in place. Lift it slowly and bent back over itself. And if the paint has formed a continuous bridge across the margin of the mask, run a fresh scalpel blade along the edge before peeling – you will thereby break the film and cracks will not run further into the area. If something peels off all the same, do the repair with a brush only once the surroundings are fully cured.
It is a masking accessory for modelers. The package holds neither a kit, wheels nor paints. Store the sheet flat and out of direct sunlight.
