1:35 Sioux Blanket and Accessories is a printed paper sheet for dioramas in 1:35 scale from the firm ETA diorama with the motif of a patterned blanket and accessories. It is not a kit and not a waterslide decal – the motifs are cut out of the sheet and fitted into a scene.
Responsibility details are not available.
Textiles with a bold pattern belong among the most demanding elements of a diorama. In 1:35 scale such a blanket is only a couple of centimeters across on a model and painting a legible geometric ornament on it with a brush is almost impossible. A printed sheet sidesteps the task: the pattern is ready in printing quality and the modeler is left dealing only with the shaping and the fitting. Besides the blanket, the sheet holds accessory motifs as well.
A blanket comes into its own thrown over a figure's shoulder, laid on the ground by a fire, rolled up by a saddle or hung over a rod. It works best where it breaks up an otherwise monotonous area – against the brown ground of the prairie a colorful pattern shows at once. The accessory motifs then furnish a scene with the small things that give it a lived-in feel.
Cut with a scalpel with a sharp edge and fray the edge of the blanket gently with the tip of a knife or a glass fiber brush, or suggest fringes. For throwing it over a shoulder or over a rod, dampen the paper first and run the back over with the blunt side of a scalpel at the place of the bend – that creates a soft bend without creasing. Fix it with a thin layer of PVA or matte glue applied to the undercoat. The combination with figures is the key here: a blanket only gains meaning in relation to a person, while a rectangle laid on its own comes across as a mat. At the end a fine wash into the folds, a hint of dust around the edges and matte clear coat, which strengthens the paper and takes the sheen off it.
It is a printed paper accessory, not a kit and not a decal. Figures, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
