The Soviet NKL-26 in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter: a plastic kit of an armored aerosan, a snow craft on skis driven by an aircraft propeller.
Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic kit of the Soviet armored aerosan NKL-26, a snow vehicle that moves on skis instead of wheels and is driven by a pusher aircraft propeller at the rear. The model in 1:35 scale holds a finely broken down engine with propeller, a rotating turret with a machine gun and usually a figure and a few photo-etched parts as well; the exact contents depend on the particular release.
The Red Army used the NKL-26 aerosan in the Second World War for patrol, liaison and transport in deep snow, where ordinary vehicles could not get through. The plywood body was protected at the front by 10 mm armor, and the crew of two was backed up by a 7.62 mm machine gun on a ring mount. Power came from an aircraft engine spinning a wooden propeller, thanks to which the sledge slid quickly over the snow.
The most work goes into the multi-part engine and propeller: assemble and paint them separately, and only then fit them. Glue the plastic with liquid cement and the small photo-etched parts with super glue. White winter camouflage is typical: lay a primer, then the base color and the white over it, which can be rubbed back in places to reveal the shade underneath. A weathered wooden and snow-covered look is helped along by a wash, dry brushing and white pigments imitating snow. Leave the propeller and the skis for last and paint them separately, so that the contrast of wood, metal and snow stands out.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
