A resin accessory for tracked equipment in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer Elefant. According to the name of the product the package contains two wheels of the type 1 version, usable on the M46, M47, M48, M60, M103 and T-54 family. It is not a tank kit but separate wheels for improving a model or as a spare carried on the vehicle.
A wheel is, paradoxically, one of the hardest parts to injection-mold. It has to be split by a parting line, so flash forms around the circumference exactly where the clean edge of the rubber tire should be. On the hubs and lightening holes the plastic gets simplified, because the mold has to open. A resin casting does not have that logic: it is poured into a flexible silicone mold that tolerates undercut shapes. The result is a legible structure to the hub, a crisp transition between metal and rubber and a full hub even where a plastic part offers only a suggested shape.
Separate the wheels from the casting block with a fine-toothed saw, run the cut with some margin and finish it off with abrasive paper. Before you start gluing, check dry that the hub seats on the pin of the swing arm. Wash the castings beforehand in warm water with detergent. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue. When painting, first spray the whole wheel in the shade of the vehicle and then paint the rubber tire a dark gray. Anyone confident enough can spray the tire separately and mask the hub with a circular mask. Finally comes dusting with pigments from the rim toward the center, because that is how dirt settles on a real running gear.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
