About product

The SPz Marder 1A3 in 1:35 scale – a wheel masking set (Quickwheel)

A masking accessory for painting road wheels, not a kit. The set gives the boundary between the rubber tire and the disk a ready-made shape, so the cutting of rings and the drawing around with a brush both fall away.

Which kit it is intended for

The set is cut for the wheels of the kit of this infantry fighting vehicle from Revell. Wheel masks are always tied to a particular kit, because the diameter of a wheel and the shape of the disk differ between manufacturers.

When the disk is broken up

Not every disk is a smooth area. There tend to be raised nuts, hub bosses, pressings or a rim around the perimeter on it, and a mask laid on flat then need not adhere around the whole perimeter – it is exactly over relief that the paint most easily gets under the margin. There are several solutions and they complement each other well.

The simplest is to press the mask down properly once it is in place: go over the whole margin with a skewer, a toothpick or a burnisher and pay attention to the places where it passes over a raised detail. The second step is insurance against running under – spray the edge with a thin layer of the color that is under the mask. If something runs under, the same shade will run under and the edge will stay clean; only then apply the second color. If a mask does not seat over a pronounced boss at all, you can carefully make a short notch in it, so that it can open out and flow around the obstacle. And where the disk is set off from the base by a very sharp edge, it also helps to spray the paint at a right angle to the wheel and in thin layers – spraying at an angle pushes the paint under the margin of the mask the most.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of vehicles with a broken-up disk of the road wheel
  • Modelers who paint wheels with an airbrush
  • Anyone who wants the line of the rubber the same on all the wheels
  • A build where the running gear will be clearly visible on the finished model

It is a masking accessory for modelers. The package holds neither a kit, wheels nor paints. Store the sheet flat and out of direct sunlight.

FAQ

Press the margin down carefully with a toothpick or a burnisher. If the mask does not seat over a boss even then, make a short notch in it, so that it can open out and flow around the obstacle.

Spray the edge first with a thin layer of the paint that is under the mask. Any run-under will then be in the same shade and will not be visible. Only afterward apply the second color, at a right angle and in thin layers.

No. It is a masking accessory for painting the wheels. The package holds neither a kit, wheels nor paints.

Do not count on it. The set is cut for the wheels of the kit from Revell; the dimensions of wheels differ for the same subject between manufacturers.
