This item from the manufacturer MAiM joins animal figures with a scenic element: storks with a nest placed on a power line pole, in 1:35 scale. It is a figure for 1:35 scale. Check the number of figures, the material, the height of the pole and the way the nest is attached against the illustration on the packaging. The manufacturer also offers the stork motif in further treatments, so when choosing, check that you are taking the variant with the pole.
A stork nest on a pole is one of the best known images of the Central European landscape, and in a diorama it works twice over: it gives a scene height and at the same time it states the setting of a village or the edge of a settlement unambiguously. Animals also calm a scene and give it action without taking attention from the main model, which is useful especially where there is equipment or figures in the scene.
Build the assembly from the bottom: first seat and align the pole vertically, then the nest and only at the end the birds. Try fitting the parts dry and choose the glue according to the material — super glue on resin, ordinary modeling cement on injection-molded plastic. Stork plumage rests on a clean contrast of white and black: never paint the white a pure white but slightly toned, otherwise it will merge into a flat area; the black flight feathers, on the other hand, should be lightened with a gray-blue so that the feathers read on them. The beak and the legs get a rich red, which suits a satin varnish well. The nest is a rewarding detail — it is built up from cut natural fibers or fine twigs and painted in varied brown tones, so that it does not look like a single lump. Darken the bottom of the pole and dust it with pigment.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, material for completing the nest and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
