A plastic kit of the Soviet STZ-5 tracked artillery tractor in 1:35 scale from Zvezda. The model faithfully captures the characteristic cab, the cargo bed and the tracked running gear of the tractor and offers a richly broken-up surface. The tracks are made up of individual links. It is a rewarding subject for Red Army dioramas.
The STZ-5 (derived from the STZ-NATI agricultural tractor) was a general-purpose tracked tractor built at the Stalingrad Tractor Works. It served above all to tow artillery pieces and to carry gun crews and ammunition, and it became the most widespread artillery tractor of the Red Army at the start of the Second World War. Thanks to its tracked chassis it coped with heavy going as well.
Build the running gear and the cab first, then the cargo bed; it is practical to paint the link-and-length tracks before fitting them. Use a liquid cement on the plastic, treat the surface with a primer and apply the colors with an airbrush. A single-color finish comes alive with a wash into the recesses and dust or mud pigments on the running gear and the fenders.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
