A pre-cut self-adhesive masking set in 1:35 scale for the T-14 Armata tank. It is not a kit but an accessory for a model you already own — it takes the place of cutting masking tape by hand. The set is cut to the shapes of the parts of one particular kit, so before ordering it is worth making sure that is the one you are building.
On a tank the large glazing that dominates wheeled vehicles does not arise, and the masking work shifts elsewhere. The T-14 has an unmanned turret, the crew sits in an armored capsule in the front part of the hull, and the turret carries a set of optical and sensor faces that are meant to stay clean and sharply bounded once the paint is on. The second tedious part is the road wheels: their rubber tires have to be separated from the painted disc all the way round, and with seven wheels on each side that means fourteen rings where every twitch of the hand shows. A circular mask cut to the right diameter shortens this work and, above all, makes it uniform — all the wheels end up looking the same.
Offer the mask up dry and compare both the diameter and the outline with the part before you peel the backing off; wheel diameters differ between kits and a difference of half a millimeter shows across a row of wheels. Always center a circular mask on the hub, not on the outer outline — otherwise you get an off-center edge. Degrease the surfaces, tap the mask down with a blunt toothpick all the way round the edge and spray in thin coats so that paint does not bleed under it. Take the masks off while the paint has only just dried.
