About product

An Aber telegraph pillar, 1 crossarm of 8 insulators, in 1:35

A set from the manufacturer Aber in 1:35 scale for building a telegraph, or power, pillar with one wide crossarm carrying eight insulators. It is neither a vehicle kit nor a figure, but a standalone diorama feature. The set combines fine photo-etched metal parts with other components for a faithful fit-out of the pillar.

What it is for

A telegraph pillar is a classic accessory along roads and railways in dioramas of the Second World War and in civilian scenes. A wide crossarm with eight insulators allows a denser run of wires and looks striking above a column of vehicles or a street. Modelers usually make the shaft of the pillar themselves out of dowel, and the set supplies the crossarm and the insulators.

Tips for working it

Cut the photo-etched parts off the fret and clean them up; sand the wooden shaft and bring out the grain of the wood. Prime the metal parts and paint them with acrylics; the insulators are finished with a gloss varnish. The wires are strung from fine drawn thread or thin fishing line. Use cyanoacrylate glue for the metal.

Who it is for

  • Diorama builders making scenes along roads and railways in 1:35
  • Modelers who want true infrastructure detail
  • Competition builders looking for fine photo-etched parts
  • More experienced enthusiasts used to working with photo-etched parts

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The shaft of the pillar, glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
