The Kiosk No. 2 telephone box in 1:35 scale from Metallic Details is a diorama kit of resin and photo-etched parts, with film for the glazing and printed posters for the notice boards.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set is a standalone kit of a piece of street furniture, not a vehicle model. It builds the classic British telephone box of the Kiosk No. 2 type, one of the best known elements of the British street scene. The box holds castings in cast resin and photo-etched sheets with fine detail, plus clear film for the glazing, mirror film and several variants of color posters for the notice boards.
The Kiosk No. 2 is a cast iron structure with glazed walls and a domed roof that became a common part of streets in Great Britain. Its hallmarks are the small glazed panes in the door and the walls, the tiered crown and the interior fitting with the instrument and a shelf. That busy detail is exactly why the box is hard to reproduce in plastic and why a combination of resin and photo-etched parts was chosen.
Wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water and remove the casting blocks with a saw; protect your airways while sanding. Bend the photo-etched frames in a bending tool or over a sharp edge, and make each fold in a single pass. Build the assembly up on a flat surface so that the box does not end up twisted. Glue the film glazing in only after the paint has been sprayed, ideally with a thin glue for clear parts that does not fog them. Paint over a primer, add a dark wash into the recesses of the busy surface and bring the edges out lightly with a dry brush. Fit the posters and the mirror right at the end.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
