About product

1:35 Special forces medics for the UH-60 (CMK, 2 figures)

A resin figure set in 1:35 scale from the maker CMK. The name specifies two figures of medics tied to the UH-60 helicopter, that is figures for a scene where work is going on at the machine rather than for a rank-and-file infantry group. From a modeling point of view a pair is a different task from a single figure: two figures together are automatically compared by the viewer, so they have to be clearly distinguishable and at the same time come from one world in color.

Working with resin

The castings come on casting blocks and tend to have thin sections on them that call for care. First wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry, which removes the mold release agent. Cut the blocks off with a fine-toothed saw a little way from the part and sand the remainder down. Scrape the parting line on the arms and legs with the edge of a scalpel and leave sanding for the final touches. Resin is hard and brittle, so never bend thin sections. If a small bubble from casting appears, fill it with a drop of cyanoacrylate glue or with putty and sand it over. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and the joint of the arms to the body will last better with a small wire pin.

Painting the skin and hands

With medic figures attention naturally turns to the hands, so give them the same care as the face. After the base color lay down the skin tone, apply the shading with a brown glaze into the palm, between the fingers and under the edge of the sleeve, and leave the lighter tone only on the backs of the fingers and the knuckles. Tell bare skin and gloves apart: skin has a soft transition, gloves a sharper edge and a different degree of sheen. We recommend painting the face and eyes under a magnifier; in 1:35 a dark line and a hint of the corner are enough. Keep both figures on a common palette for the uniform, but with a slightly different skin tone, so that they do not look like the same figure twice. Finally even the pair out with matte clear coat and the same dusty tint that the helicopter has.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of a helicopter in 1:35 who want a living scene at the machine rather than an empty surface
  • Modelers with experience of resin, cyanoacrylate glue and a base color
  • Anyone interested in painting skin and hands in a small format
  • Diorama makers building a scene around a landed machine

The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted as resin castings. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The name of the set gives two figures. Any other contents of the package, such as separate heads, bags or accessories, are stated on the box.

Fill a small crater with a drop of thicker cyanoacrylate glue or with modeling putty, let it cure properly and sand it over with a fine abrasive file. A larger cavity is better filled with putty in two thin layers than in one thick one.

Build skin with soft transitions and let it show through a glaze slightly; outline gloves, by contrast, with a sharper line and give them a different degree of sheen. The eye will then tell even the same shade apart by its surface.

The scale matches, but the figures are not built for one particular kit. Before gluing, always test them dry in the place they are to go and sand the contact surfaces down if need be.
