A set of replacement wheels in 1:35 scale for the Willys MB light off-road vehicle. The tires are cast with a compressed contact patch, that is as they look under the weight of a standing vehicle, and according to the name a spare wheel is included. This is not a kit of the vehicle but an accessory for a part-built model.
A wheel from a plastic kit is usually perfectly round, so the model looks as if it were floating above the base. A resin casting with a compressed lower part of the tire removes this impression: the vehicle leans on the base and gains weight. On an open vehicle, where the wheels are clearly visible and the spare tends to sit in a well visible place, this is one of the most noticeable modifications of all. Weighted wheels, however, suit only a standing model; they are not suitable for a vehicle in motion or with an axle lifted.
Wash the wheels in warm water with detergent, cut the casting block off and sand down its mark, because on a tire it shows more than anywhere else. Before gluing, stand the model on a flat surface and turn the wheels so that the compressed patches seat correctly; it is the one thing on weighted wheels that cannot be corrected once dry. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Painting: a tire is not black but rather a very dark gray; separate the hub by masking or paint it on its own and glue it only at the end. Apply dust from pigments working from the bottom of the tire upward.
The set is an accessory, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Before buying, check that the wheels fit the kit you are building.
