This is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model of the vehicle. With photo-etched sets the Basic designation in the name means the usual selection of exterior parts that replace plastic parts with an unrealistically thick wall. The difference shows most on the fenders, the grilles, the tool brackets and the small fittings. The set is used together with a matching kit of this tank in 1:35 scale, which it in no way replaces. The target kit is Takom.
The Pz.Kpfw. III Ausf. M belonged to the late production batches of the German medium tank of the third series. The vehicle was derived from the previous forms and differed mainly in modifications for fording and in adaptations for production. A typical feature of the late machines of this series is the add-on armor skirts hung on the sides of the hull and on the turret, which increased resistance to shaped charge warheads. The vehicle was well sorted in production terms and easy to maintain in its day, but it had exhausted its room for any further strengthening of the armament.
Separate the photo-etched parts with a scalpel or a chisel on a hard surface, as cutters will ripple the sheet. Make the bends in a bending tool, so that the fold is crisp along its whole length. Degrease the metal, glue with cyanoacrylate in a minimal amount, and on larger surfaces epoxy helps. Apply a primer meant for metal before painting. It is a good idea to fit the side armor skirts only once the hull is painted, because they cover surfaces that neither a brush nor an airbrush will then reach. Thinner photo-etch takes a gentle dent, which looks very convincing on a finished model.
The set is an accessory for a kit, which it does not replace. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Before buying, check that the set matches your kit.
